113th Brigade

of Croatian army, Å ibenik

Brigade History:

On 4 June 1991 under order from I. Jelić active company of ZNG is formed in Šibenik. During June Ante Ljubičić, commander of Territorial Defense in Šibenik, receives order from general Martin Špegelj to start forming 113. brigade as regular ZNG unit. By using members of reserve police and with additional mobilization brigade was formed on 19 June 1991.

Although brigade was formed on 19 June 1991, its members managed already in late July to prevent JNA and Serbian paramilitaries to capture Skradin and reach Adriatic sea and in September they accomplished one of the first and biggest victories of Croatian Army by stooping JNA tanks at Šibenik bridge and pushing them back preventing cutting Croatia into two parts. Near Pakovo Selo and Sedramića they blocked the way for 9th Knin Corps of JNA armored-mechanized formations commanded by Ratko Mladić and successfully defended Šibenik, Skradin and communication Šibenik-Unešić. Together with MUP (Ministry of Interior) unit from Drniš, 4th Battalion of the 113th Bde destroyed first Yugoslav T-72 in Dalmatia using 'Zolja' rocket launcher.
For Christmas 1991, brigade liberated village Dragišiće after capturing strategic points Gradina and Gaćeleze. In March 1992 strong chetnik stronghold Nos-Kalik was captured at the mouth or the river Čikola into river Krka followed by victories battle for Maljevac plateau in June in which after Serb provocation more the 180 km was liberated, captured several APC's and tanks, battery of 105mm howitzers and four 76mm ZIS guns and according to Serb sources inflicting 130 causalities.
