Operation Hurricane '91

(Operacija Orkan '91)

Defeat of JNA in Vukovar-Vinkovci-Osijek area allowed operation for liberation of parts of western Slavonia. HV started operation in December 1991 and only cease-fire prevented HV from completing it and reaching the Sava river.

Up to then all offensive operations of HV where at tactical level, this was the first at operational level.

With this operation JNA 5th Banja Luka corps, whose goal was capturing of Novska, Pakrac, Kutina and Nova Gradiska, link up with blocked barracks in wider area of Zagreb and reaching north-west border of Greater Serbia, was stooped. After that HV for the first time during the war starts counter-attack and liberates over 170 square kilometers.
