16th Motorized Brigade

of Yugoslav People's Army

History

Formed from 16th Infantry Regiment in 1985 and was subordinate to Banja Luka Corps.

On 15 September 1991 crossed Sava river at Gradiska from Bosnia into Croatia and joined 329th Armored Brigade in combat operations advancing quickly through villages Donji, Gornji and Novi Varos towards Zagreb-Belgrade highway. Here it suffered its first fatality Bojan Majstorovic and several wounded. In following days brigade took control of area in western Slavonia and places Kosovac, Gornji Bogičevci, Nova Varoš, Donji Bogičevci, Gornji Rajić etc. Also fought with 43rd brigade.

After return to Bosnia it was refitted and become 16th Krajina Motorized brigade of Army of Republic of Srpska (VRS).
