Juraj Danicic (Daničić)

Biography:

Born in Senj.

As leader of Uskoks from Senj, Danicic was disrupting sail of Ragusan ships in Adriatic. Through Venetian territory he carried out raids into Ottoman territory and in 1557 defeated Turkish column which was returning to Bosnia from raid in Kranj through Grobnik and Lika. In 1565 he fought Turkish ships at Makarska and until 1571 had several battles with Ottomans for which he was made knight by Austrian archduke Karlo in 1570.

After Venice made peace with Ottoman empire in 1573, he started attacking Venetian ships also and bounty was placed on him in 1582.

Im January 1583 with his Uskos and Dalmatians Danicic launched failed siege of Ottomans in Klis. Last battle with Turks he fought in 1595 in Lika when he defeted Safer, beg of Zvornik.
