Vezio Orazi

Biography
Born on 1 November 1904 in Rome.
As student organized Youth formation in Lazio province. Graduated law in 1927 after which he organized First university congress an International Sport games. By 1928 he was named undersecretary of Fascist university groups.
Succeeded Adelchi Serena as federal secretary of Rome.
Volunteered to serve in East Africa and as Lieutenant in 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment left on 26 March 1936 marching into Addis Abeba on 5 May. Founded fascist organization in Ethopia. He returns to Rome on 12 August and three months later becomes perfect of Province of Cuneo. Year later he was transferred to Gorica.
Orazi arrival to Zadar would soon be followed by mass arrest and reprisals for Partisan actions.
Vezio Orazi was killed in ambush on Erdevik — Žegar road set up by 1st Platoon from Partian Battalion 'Bude Borjan' commanded by Slobodan Macura Bondo on the 26 May 1942. Orazi was shot in the head and chest by Mirko Štrbac, at that time only 16 years old. Also killed were Carabinieri captain Umberto Buonassisi, artillery lieutenant Giacinto Trupiano, a police warrant-officer brigadier Pietro Bardelloni and seven? artillery men: Michele Sampanella, Dino Cialdi and Arnaldo Zoppi. Wounded included soldier Francesco Dell'Arte
As reprisal for his death, detachment of around 300 soldiers under major Capelli made of 107th Machine-gun Company, 107th CCNN Legion, flamethrower section supported by 3 aircraft left Zadar to Bukovica area. On 29 May, soldiers took 11 persons (Babić Tode, Babić Obrad, Babić Vid, Kanazir Gavro, Kanzir Jovan, Kanzir Rade, Kanzir M. Stevan, Kanazir A. Stevan and PavliÄić Nikola all from Mokro Polje) which were locked in Kistanje prison as partisan supporters and executed them without trial. Following day some 20 houses were burned in Mažibrade hamlet burning alive Taus Ilija, Å aÅ¡ić Äuro and another child. Further crimes occurred when after searching villages and hamlets Bezbradice, Grulović, Macure etc. 30 persons were executed. 80 houses were burned and 200 sheep, 50 cattle and 30 goats taken. On 1 June, search was carried out in area of Komazec, Žegar with further killings of civilians, 40 houses burned, 200 sheep, 20 cattle and some pigs taken.
His name is sometimes spelled as Vecio Oraci or Verzio Orazi in Yugoslav and Croatian literature.
