Dragomir Vuckovic (Vučković)

( 1905 - 1959 )

Biography:

Born on 9 November 1905 in Zajecar, Serbia. He was fourth son of Ilija, merchant in Zajecar, stepmother Vilka. Dragomir married Veroljupka Jovanovic on August 13, 1931

Graduated from Minor School of Military Academy, 25th Class in 1929 and from Higher School of Military Academy, 52nd Class in October 1935. Captured by Germans in April 1941, held in POW camp in Skopje until sent to OFLAG XII C where he spent next four years.

After the war refused to join communist regime in Yugoslavia and emigrated to USA from Austria in April 1950.

Dragomir Vuckovic died on March 20, 1959 in Chicago, IL from skin cancer. 20 days before he died he was visited in hospital by ex-King of Yugoslavia Petar II Karadjordjevic and received the Memorial Medal.
