Blago Zadro

Biography

Blago Zadro was born on 31 March 1944 in Donji Mamici - Ledinac, municipality of Grude in Herzegovina. In 1954, his family moved to Borovo Naselje, industrial district of Vukovar were Blago finished primary and secondary school and begun to work in 'Borovo' plant. He married Katica and had three sons Robert, Tomislav and Josip.

After first free elections in Croatia he become politically active and was first vice president of HDZ in Vukovar and joined defense preparations. Until his death he personally leads actions which halted advance of Yugoslav People's Army along Trpinja road.

Two of his oldest sons also joined defense of Vukovar, his oldest Robert later disappeared in combat around Kupres.

Blago Zadro was buried in 'Aleja hrvatskih branitelja' in Vukovar's New cemetery on 16 October 1998 after his remains were exhumed in summer of '98 together with 937 other victims form mass grave on Vukovar's New cemetery.

His name was given to Command Staff School 'Blago Zadro' of Croatian army.
