Branimir Altgayer

Biography
Born in Przekopane, Galica (at the time part of Austro-Hungarian monarchy) on 8 November 1897, grown up in Slavonia.
Founder of The Cultural and Welfare Union of Germans (Kultur- und Wohlfahrtsvereinigung der Deutschen - KWVD) in Osijek in 1936.
After completing cavalry cadet school served in army and later in army of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia) in which he achieved rank of Captain 1st Class.
Branimir Altgayer actively participated in cultural and political life of German minority belonging to radical wing of Kulturbund (Swabian-German Cultural Union). In 1939 become regional leader for Slavonia and after establishment of Independent State of Croatia (NDH) become leader (Volksgruppenführer) of German minority in NDH. In 1943 he also become State secretary of NDH.
Ante Pavelic promoted Altgayer to rank of Ustasha colonel and also give him decoration with right of title knight.
Spent short period of time on Eastern front.
After the war he was caught in Austria by British and extradited to Yugoslavia where on 21 January 1950, District court in Zagreb sentenced him to death by firing squad which was carried out on 15 May 1950.
