Nikola Bevandic

Biography

Nikola Bevandic was born on 1919 in Prijedor, Donja Puharska (?).Here he also went to school. Nikola had brothers Pero and Stipe, sisters Danica, Marija and Olga. His parents father Stipan and mother Francika come to Prijedor from Lovinac in Lika. Nikola married Tilda (?) and had three children but they soon died. According to stories he was jovial fellow, liked farm work.

April war caught him in army of Yugoslav Kingdom. Nikola served in motorized unit in Zagreb. During collapse of army he left Zagreb on a military motorcycle and headed for Slavonski brod. In rout he was captured by Germans.

Together with other captured soldiers he was taken to Vienna and put in camp and left in open for several rainy days, Nikola fell ill with tuberculosis and died at age of 21. He was buried in Vienna, his remains were never returned.
