Josip Hočevar

Biography

Born on 2 December 1899 in Zagorje (Slovenia). Roman Catholic. Lived in Zagreb.

Served in royal Yugoslav army. After April war, although he was Slovene national, sent request to join Croatian Home Defense which was granted.

Hočevar become part of Yugoslav Partisans spy ring around Melita Tomić which was discovered and on 9 June 1944 he was sentenced to death by firing squad which was carried out at 6:00 on 11 June.

Together with Hočevar other members of the group were shot Melita Tomić, Marija Anić-Ivčić, Marijan Žmavec, Josip Spaić and Franjo Felle. Karlo Radoničić and Mladen Angeli got sentences commuted to life imprisonment by poglavnik Ante Pavelić.
