Wolfgang Osterwald

Biography

Born on 10 January 1924.

Reported missing on 29 May 1944 while flying Bf 109G-6 Werk# 163188 "Yellow 10 + -" after air combat 50 km south of Zagreb.

Lt. Osterwald was shot down near Bruvno and was captured by Yugoslav Partisans. During interrogation at HQ of the 11th Corps he revealed that he took off from Udine in order to intercept allied bombers heading for Germany. He also provided details about himself and information on German air force bases, staff, schools etc.

Final fate unknown.
