Illyrian Regiment
1810 - 1815

On 16 November 1810, Napoleon gave order to form light infantry regiment under the name Illyrian Regiment (Regiment d'Illyrie). Planned organization was:
- 1st Battalion
- Carabinier Company
- Voltigeurs Company
- 4X Chasseurs Company
- 2nd Battalion
- 3rd Battalion
- 4th Battalion
- 5th Battalion
- Headquarters
Each Company had Captain, Lieutenant, 2nd Lieutenant, 6 NCOs, 8 Corporals, 2 Drummers and 121 soldiers.
Mobilization for Regiment took place in Civil Croatia, Istria and parts of Slovenia. The mobilized men were from 18 to 40 years old. The mobilization wasn't very successful, so to gather up as many possible recruits, quite many were captured in mentioned areas and sent to Ljubljana. Finally, on 22nd January 1811, Regiment was formed in Ljubljana. From Ljubljana, men were sent to Gorica where 300 men tried to escape from Gorica Barracks. French soldier opened fire on them, some recruits were killed, some wounded, some managed to escape, but majority was captured. Those one who were captured, were shot in the front of other Croatians and Slovenians.
