CV-33 / L3/35

Italian light tanks L3 and L6 based there construction on tankettes Carde Loyd Mark VI bought from Great Britain in 1929. Tankette received designation Carro Veloce (fast tank) 29 and Fiat-Ansaldo made 21 licensed built vehicles. First vehicles were vulnerable, half opened and armed with one machine-gun. Construction of fully closed, heavily armored CV3 started in 1931 and it entered in service as CV 33.

New tankette had purpose to act as combat tank and weight was almost doubled from 1,7 ton CV 29. Construction was of armor plates connected with rivets and suspension was improved Carde Loyd type with two ecliptic springs on each side,

Driver seat was on the right and commander-gunner on the left. First two prototypes had 6,5mm Revelli-Fiat machine-gun installed, but already at third prototype it was replaced with lighter weapon similar caliber, Fiat type 14 water cooled. In 1935 little modified series II CV33 received two 8mm machine-guns Fiat type 14/35 and older vehicles were modified according to the new standard. Original plans to arm CV33 with 37mm weapon never realized.

Tankette was used as carri d'assalto in battalions for infantry support or as carri veloci in cavalry groups with 43 vehicles in each.
