41st Infantry Division
41. Infanterie-Division
History
In the afternoon of 10 June, Yugoslav 12th Krajina brigade run into vanguard of 41st Division around village Luka, southwest of Veliko Trgovišće near Zabok. Brigade commander connected to working telephone line Luka - Pojatno which was used by German staff for communications demanding surrender of the division. Together with 41st Division also retreating were around 1400 Ustasha from 13th Ustasha brigade and 400 Croatian Home Defense soldiers which joined Yugoslav army and deployed against Germans and Ustasha before they also were disarmed. Ustasa refused to surrendered until they were bluffed into believing that they were surrounded by several divisions instead of just one brigade.
Total of 9000 Germans, 1400 Ustasha and 400 Home Defense soldiers were taken prisoners including 28 wounded Germans and Ustasha. Yugoslav army also took 5345 Mauser rifles, 1500 pistols, 570 larger and 260 smaller submachine-guns, 570 MG-34/42, 20 light machine guns, 200 binoculars, 80000 rounds of rifle ammo, 20000 rounds for machine guns, 6000 rounds for pistols, 450 horses, 1865 tents, 196 trench coats, 141 pairs of shoes.
Numbers given by Yugoslav army give interesting details about division final days, it seems all heavier equipment filed guns, howitzers and mortars were abandoned as well as motor vehicles. Ammunition was also pretty low especially for machine-guns and many soldiers weren't even armed probably belonging to rear area units.
