Naval Artillery Battalions

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung MMA

History

After failure to clear/capture all Adriatic islands, which allowed Vis to develop into strong Partisan and Allied base, Germans needed to guard numerous island and long coastline from raids and landings as well protect their own shipping routs from Allied naval supremacy, for this purpose numerous naval artillery batteries were formed. These come under frequent air attacks and raids until finally destroyed once Yugoslav Partisans reformed into Yugoslav army and begun their final advance.
