History

From 29 December 1941 to 2 January 1942, garrison in Korenica suffered heavy losses. On 30 January at Bijelo Polje in night battle in deep snow at -28 degrees (causing oil in machine-guns to freeze), 1st and 2nd Company had 4 killed, 7 wounded, 36 wounded and 23 frozen. Amongst captured were 2nd Lieutenants Giovanni Revelant, dr. Giorgio Pomerri, Gennarini Vittorio and Belfanti Carlo. At Å ijanov Klanac pass, 2nd Company suffered 7 killed including 2nd Lieutenant Renzo Gollia while securing the pass. On 1 January mixed force from Korenica attacked Gradina claiming 60 killed Partisans but only two Mannlicher rifles and one previously lost heavy machine-gun were captured. Italian losses were 1 killed and 20 wounded including 2nd lieutenant Enrio Balducci. On the same day 2nd Company returning from pass was ambushed with its commander 1st Lieutenant Bartolomeo Pedrazzeli killed and commander of Machine-gun Platoon, 2nd Lieutenant Guiseppe Travaglini badly wounded. From 2nd Company only 3 officers and 63 soldiers returned to Korenica with Partisans claiming 26 killed and 95 captured. Either killed or captured were doctor Antoni Sieno, 2nd Lieutenants Antonio Redigolo, Guiseppe Palmiero and Guiseppe Travaglini.
