Operation ALFA
Italian phase one of joint Axis offensive codenamed Operation "DINARA" against liberated territory in central Bosnia.
Joint Italian-Chetnik operation with goal of pushing back partisan forces from Mostar bauxite basin and from railway Sarajevo - Mostar.
Attack was launched on 5 October 1942 by Italian VI Army corps (4,000 soldiers) and Chetnik Trebinje, Nevesinje and Romanija Corps (5,000 soldiers) divided into five attacking columns, coordinated with 7th and 15th Domobran Infantry Regiments and supported by Regia Aeronautica.
On October 8th, the Italian 29th Bersaglieri battalion and the 2nd battalion of the 94th Regiment from Division "Messina" pushed back units of 10th Herzegovina brigade of NOVJ and captured Prozor.
10th Herzegovina brigade of NOVJ which was stretched over 60 kilometers and couldn't do much in stopping the axis advance and by October 10th villages Sovici, Scit and Ravno have been taken, villages on mountains Ljubusa, Vran, Paklina and Radusa and on the line Duvno - Sujica - Gornji Vakuf have been swiped and made contact with NDH troops.
Chetniks looted entire area and burned dozens of villages. In Prozor region alone 638 people where murdered and 656 houses burned.
