7 October Commander of German 21st Mountain Corps issued order to units of 118th and 279th Division to gather in the valley of rivers Lim and Tara for operation BALKANSCHLUCHT against main force of 2nd Assault Corps of NOVJ and Italian Division "Venezia" which crossed to partisan side on 10th October.

15 October Operation started with advance of 118th Jaeger Division from Podgorica (Titograd) towards Kolasin and advnace of 297th Infantry Division from Peci towards Andrijevica and Berane (Ivangrad) with goal of pushing back forces of 2nd Assault Corps of NOVJ from road Pec - Podgorica and to surround parts of Italian Partisan Division "Venezia" inside Berane.
