Operation DUBROVNIK

Description

Operation of 1st Poglavnik Bodyguard Regiment and 5th Ustasha Active Service Brigade reinforced with German units and 100mm howitzer battery under command of Ustasha colonel Ante Moskov in Hrvatsko zagorje and Kalnik starting on 21 January 1944 against newly formed 10th Zagreb Corps of NOVJ. Goal was to reestablish communication Varazdin-Zagreb by recapturing Novi Marof and Varazdinske Toplice and to create strongholds in Bednja valley for offensive operations against partisans held territory in Kalnik and Podravina also to prevent passage of 14th Slovenian division which was moving to Styria where it finally arrived on 6th February without a major battle through its entire travel through Croatia.
