Operation FLORETT

(Operation Foil)

History

Anti-partisan operation carried out by German 392nd Division "Blue Division" against Yugoslav Partisans 13th (Primorsko-goranska) Division in Mrkopalj region which it held since capitulation of Italy.

Reconnaissance section and two companies of 392nd Division were loaned during June to neighboring division and once they returned planing for operation FLORETT begun. 3rd Battalion from 846th Regiment was moved from Otočac to area south-east of Josipdol to free up 33rd Ustasha Battalion for operation.

Operation begun on 30 June with attacker divided into three groups, by the evening Reconnaissance section with 2nd Battalion managed to cover 42 kilometers of difficult mountain road and arrive to Mrkopalj surprising Partisan town command forcing it to flee. Other groups run into light resistance from Partisan 1st and 2nd Detachment since most of 13th Division was committed to attack on Bosiljevo together with 15th Slovenian division in order to relive pressure on Žumberak where another anti-partisan operation was underway.

Because of new situation after destroying several Partisan warehouse and barracks and refueling German group left Mrkopalj and advance east to aid garrison in Bosiljevo.

Casualties

Aftermath

German and NDH troops were unable to permanently garrison the area and after destruction of Partisan infrastructure left the Mrkopalj area.
