Operation FRÜHLINGSANFANG

(Operation Beginning of the Spring)

History

On 19 March 1945 started the biggest and probably the toughest German offensive in Primorska and Gorenjska regions (Slovenia). The offensive was divided by the Germans into two parts. In first part of the offensive codenamed FRÜHLINGSANFANG attacked Germans with about 15.000 men, assembled from various posts, from various units and even more funny from various nations- Germans, Austrians, Italians, Greeks, Slovenian Domobrans, members of Serbian State Guard, Serbian Chetniks and even ROA units also took part in battles. The Germans quickly surrounded partisan units-about 2500 men. This first part of the offensive is probably best know because of the atrocity which was committed among captured partisans by the HQ of German 13th SS Polizei Regiment at Porezen.

Second part of the offensive was codenamed WINTERENDE.
