Operation GRÜN

Operation Green (operacija Zelen)

History

As part of the larger plan to relive pressure on Tito's main partisan group in operation WEISS newly formed Yugoslav Partisan 18th Independent Brigade together with 2nd Dilj Partisan detachment carried out 11 actions, cleaning up smaller enemy garrison and destroying railroads forcing German and Croatian military authorities to launch operation against them and clear Dilj region.

Secrecy of operation was broken and Central Committee of Croatian Communist Party in Brod received details through its contacts in staff of Croatian Home Defense 2nd Corps passing it on to 18th Brigade which being low on ammunition and being outnumbered 10 to 1 decided to withdraw to Krndija mountain.

Once operation begun only one skirmish was reported near village Podgorje. Captured two peasant wagons with 35 rounds and one pistol.
