Operation ODYSSEUS

Operation Odysseus / Unternehmen Odysseus

History

German operation for transfer Ariete-class torpedo boats TA 39, TA 37 and TA 38 from Trieste (11th Flotilla) to Pireo, Greece (9th Flotilla) from 20 to 24 September 1944. Ships were needed to support withdrawal of Army Group E from Greece and its numerous islands which was about to start.

While passing through Strait of Otranto torpedo boats encountered two Hunt-class destroyers Belvoir and Whaddon but battle was inconclusive.
