Operation OSTEREI

(Easter egg)

History

Operation was directed at clearing the Majevica mountain. It begun on 12th April 1944 at 3 a.m., 27th Regiment quickly captures Janja and through Donja Trnava reaches important objective Ugljevik mine. Here II./27. SS is involved in fighting's until the evening of following day reporting 106 dead, 45 captured and 2 deserted enemy soldiers.

13th SS Reconnaissance detachment linked up with 1st Home Defense Mountain Brigade on western slopes of Majevica. 28th Regiment moves across Mackovac and after fighting around Priboj pushes 38th Division south.

3rd Corps of NOVJ decided to withdraw 16th and 36th Vojvodina division from Majevica further south in area of Birac and Srebrenica while leaving 38th Division on Majevica but it was soon clear that 38th has to withdraw towards Birac on 20th June taking with her 200 wounded.
