Operation

History

In order to secure and hide withdrawal from Dalmatian islands Germans sent from Šibenik to Split a force of 450 Brandenburg Coastal Jagers in 5 assault landing crafts to clear Brač and Hvar islands of expected stronger Partisan forces in hiding which could threaten withdrawal operations EISBAR and other.

Landing on Brač (operation ?) on 3 September found no Partisan forces same as landing on Hvar on 6/7 September but instead triggered Partisans to send 1st Dalmatian Brigade reinforced with mountain gun battery and tank platoon totaling 1800 soldiers, 4 tanks, 3 trucks, 9 jeeps and 3 artillery batteries.

Battle started in the morning of the 8 September around Stari Grad and after six hours Partisans forced Germans to withdraw towards Jelsa where they boarded landing crafts taking them to Makarska.

1st Fighter Squadron also attacked German landing crafts on 7 September in Oskorušica cove sinking one.

1st Dalmatian claimed 20 Germans killed and 5 captured, booty also included 2 anti-tank guns, 2 heavy machine guns and other equipment including archive.
