Operation Wasserschlauch

Unternehmen Wasserschlauch / Operation Water hose

Intro

Attempt to advance into Gorski Kotar from Ogulin on 1-4 August (operation ?) failed at the cost of significant casualties and 1 tank and 1 truck destroyed. This was followed by failed attack of Partisans 13th Division on garrison in Drežnica. With concentration of 13th Division being known to Germans could easily plan advance into Gorski Kotar. Secondary objective for the operation was transfer of 3rd Battalion/846 to Kraljevica on Adriatic coast.

History

Advance begun on 23 August on directions Bosanci - Severin na Kupi and Ogulin - Vrbovsko. North of Vrbovsko, near Gorenac, Political Commissar Ilija Petrović and operative officer Nikica Tatalović of the 3rd Brigade ran into enemy vanguard and were killed.

In the afternoon of 24 August Germans surprised Staff of 13th Division in Brod Moravice and Staff of 11th Corps in village of Kuti, 2nd Brigade was moved to block this advance.

On 27 August operation was over and by 28 August all Axis formation have withdrawn from Gorski Kotar back to their garrisons.

To guard divisional supply base in Josipdol, Field replacement battalion from Drežnica was moved to Josipdol with Partisans immediately taking over Drežnica and cutting off supply road between Kapela pass and Žute Lokve. Combat units formed from staff, supply and artillery personal secured the road.
