Operation ZIETHEN

History

Joint operation of 114th and 118th Jaeger Division from 4th to 8th December 1943 towards Duvno and Livno against 9th and 20th Dalmatian divisions of 8th Corps.

Germans were also supported by some 300 Chetniks of Momcilo Djujic.

Probably main target of the operation was Yugoslav Partisan 1st Airbase located in Livno with grass airfields in Livno and Glamoc fields which were used to receive supplies from Allies in Italy and evacuate wounded Partisans and rescued allied airmen which got shot down over Yugoslavia.

Casualties

1st Airbase lost two thirds of its personnel, it suffered 23 dead, two missing and another 15 captured with aircraft FL-3 and other airfield equipment being burned. Amongst killed were engineers Josip Ungar and Svetozar Bukalov, pilots Albert Fizir, Vlado Pedišić, Oto Paungrac and Milan Kuprešanin, mechanics Ivan Hlača, Krunislav Kulunšić, Danilo Smeh, Rudolf Čorak and others.
