History

Operational group of 17th Air Army arrived in Sofia region on 14 September soon Attack and Fighter Aviation Division and two bomber regiments were rebased to airfields around Sofia, Plovdiv and Lom.

After completion of operation RATWEEK took over interdiction missions attacking retreating German Army Group E from Greece. From 13 to 30 September 17th Air Army made 1437 sorties destroying or damaging 24 locomotives, 291 railroad carts , 11 aircraft, 121 vehicles, two ammo warehouses, destroyed railway bridges near Niš, Kačanik and Vratarnica, tunnel south-east of Skopje, 5 aircraft hangars etc.
