Oversea brigades
(Prekomorske brigade)
Formed after capitulation of Italy from political prisoner Slovenians, Croats and Montenegrins from concentration camps in Italy and from Slovenians and Istrians which were in Italian army.
1st Brigade Formed on 20 October 1943 in Karbonar, Italy and transferred to Korčula and Hvar islands. Elements used to form 2nd bde. Together with 13th Dalmatian bde resists to German landings from Pelješac on Korčula. Transferred to Vis island, then Dugi otok island and on the mainland near Biograd, and from there moved to Drvar. Disbanded at the end of January 1944 and transferring personnel to 1st and 6th Proletarian Divisions. 2nd Brigade Formed on 7 December 1943 from elements of 1st bde on the Hvar island, transferred to Vis island, then Dugi otok island and on the mainland near Biograd in 7/8 January 1944, and from there moved to Drvar where it was disbanded and personnel used to fill 1st and 6th Proletarian Divisions. 3rd Brigade Formed on 17 December 1943 in Gravina, Italy. Distinguished itself in landing at Brač island from 1 to 4 July 1944, on the road Šibenik-Drniš on 3 November 1944, in liberation of Bihać on 28 March and Krk island 17 April in 1945. 4th Brigade Formed on 7 September 1943 in Gravina, Italy and until disbanded in May 1945 used as a work unit for maintaining airfields and ports from which war material and food was transferred to Yugoslavia. 5th Brigade Formed in Gravina (Bari, Italy) in September 1944 and soon transferred to Yugoslavia. From March to April participated fighting's for liberation of Lika, after that in Slovenia for Kočevo. Disbanded on 20 April 1945 and transferring personnel to 15th and 18th Divisions.
