1st Proletarian Assault Brigade

(Prva Proleterska Udarna Brigada)

Formed on 21 December 1941 in Rudno with 6 battalions - one Battalion from Kragujevac partisan detachment, one Battalion from Kraljevac partisan detachment, one battalion from Shumadia partisan detachment, Belgrade battalion of Posavina partisan detachment, Montenegro Lovćen battalion (which also had one company from Komskog partisan detachment) and 2nd Montenegro battalion. On the day of the forming it had 1119 soldiers (651 members of KPJ and SKOJ). During the war replacements came from all parts of Yugoslavia. Participated in Third (Trio), Fourth (Op. Weiss) and Fifth (Schwarz) offensives, advance into Bosnian krajina, Drvar and Belgrade operation. Through its ranks over 20,000 soldiers passed out of which over 7500 have been killed, wounded or missing.
