Tank Brigades of Yugoslav Partisans

during World War 2

Because of poor road network, mountains and swampy terrain, numerous rivers with few bridges which often got blown up, armor never played significant role in battles of World War 2 across Yugoslavia. In the beginning even Italian tankettes armed with only machine-gun would wreck havoc on inexperienced troops lacking anti-tank weapons except Molotov cocktails but after these initial shock any tank action had be carefully planed to avoid increasing number of anti-tank weapons which become standard armament even of Partisan units.

Yugoslav Partisans formed several tank detachments and battalion from captured tanks but until end of the war only two Tank brigades, trained and equipped by British and Soviets, were operational massive armored expansion of Yugoslav army started in post war period.
