Banija partisan detachment

of Yugoslavia

History

Formed in December of 1941 from Banija partisan battalion which was reformed as 1st Glina and 2nd Dvor battalion followed by 3rd Petrinja-Kostajnica battalion. On 30 December detachment had 705 soldiers and officers with 599 rifles, 20 light machine-guns, 2 machine-guns and 172 pistols. Most rifles were single and double-shot hunting rifles.

On 3 April 1942, 4th battalion was formed with 211 men and 125 rifles and 5 light machine-guns.

By 7 April, detachment strength was at 1083 soldiers and officers armed with:

  • 601 Mauser rifles
  • 72 Manliher rifles
  • 3 French three bullets
  • 3 rifle grenades rifles
  • 22 light machine-guns
  • 1 machine-gun
  • 324 hunting rifles
  • 216 pistols
  • 230 hand grandees

In September 1942 used to from 7th and 8th Banija brigades. Formed again on 23 October 1942. On 1 May 1943 from parts of Banija partisan detachment and new recruits from 3rd Brigade of 7th division was formed. Fought on Banija, Kordun, Moslavina and Bosnian krajina. Disband at the end of April 1945.
