37th Sandzak Division

(Tridesetsedma sandžačka divizija)

History

Formed on 4 March 1944 with 3rd Proletarian, 4th Sandzak and 8th Montenegrin brigades totaling 2300 soldiers. Receiving reinforcements from Serbia by December 1944 division strength reached 9000, 10000 on 1 March 1945 and 11000 on 1 May.

Operated in Sandzak until regions liberation and moved to Bosnia where it fought in Sarajevo operation after which it was returned to Sandzak to combat remaining Chetnik formations.

Division suffered around 4000 killed and wounded while inflicting some 30000 killed, wounded or captured on the enemy.
