4th Krajina Division
(Četvrta krajiška divizija)
Organization
Formed on 9 November 1942 with 2nd, 5th and 6th Krajina Brigades followed on 31 December by the 8th Krajina Brigade totaling 4075 soldiers.
In April 1943 the 2nd and 5th Krajina Brigades left the division while in September 1943 the 11th Krajina Brigade joined the division.
Artillery brigade of the 4th Krajina Division NOVJ was formed on 12 May 1945.
For short periods of time the 10th and 12th Krajina Brigade were also part of the division. Division mostly operated in the area between the Una, Sava and Vrbas rivers until October 1944, several local NOP detachments were also subordinate to it:

- Drvarsko-Petrovacki NOP detachment
- Ribnicki NOP detachment
- Sanski NOP detachment
- Gradisko-Linjevacki NOP detachment
From 9 November 1942 to 11 May 1943 division was part of 1st Bosnian Corps, followed by 2nd Bosnian Corps which on 5 October 1943 was renamed 5th Corps NOVJ.
Unit History
During November and December 1942 the division fought in the valleys of the Una and Sana rivers and from 20 January and until 19 April 1943 took part in heavy fighting during the Neretva battle. It was surrounded by stronger enemy forces on the Grmec plateau, but managed to break through. During August 1943 the division fought against Chetniks on the Manjaca plateau, disarmed some of the surrendering Italian units in Dalmatia during September and October 1943, then took part in the defense of the partisan-controlled territory of Bosanska Krajina during the German counter-offensive. During the same time the division captured some important enemy posts, disrupted enemy communication lines during November and December 1943, and took part in two unsuccessful attacks on Banja Luka on 31 December 1944 and 1 January 1945. In 1944 the division mostly operated against enemy communication lines in the Bosanska Krajina (January-may 1944). In the Drvar Operation, it took part taking Prijedor, was then involved in the Second Banja Luka operation (18-28 September 1944), in the battle for Travnik (20 October 1944). Until December 1944 some other cities and villages in Middle Bosnia were also taken. In 1945 the division took part in the Sarajevo Operation and after that was involved in the final operations of the 2nd Army JA, among others the Karlovac operation, where the division especially distinguished itself in city fighting in Karlovac (7 May 1945). From 9-14 May 1945 it pursued the retreating enemy to Zidani Most (Slovenia), where it took part in disarming the German 7th SS Mountain Division "Prinz Eugen" and 373rd German-Croatian Legionary Division.
