8th Kordun Division
(Osma kordunaška divizija)
History
Eighth Kordun Divison of Yugoslav partisans Formed on November 22nd 1942 in Crevarska Strana by the order No.95 of General Staff. Division was made from 4th and 5th Kordun Brigade and 5th primorsko-goranska Brigade, but in the beginning of December 15th Kordun brigade is formed and replaces 5th primorsko-goranska Brigade in division. First Division HQ meeting was on November 21st in Crevarska Strana. First commander was Vlado ÄŒetković, political commissar Artur Truklin, chief of staff Joco Tarabić and chief of Jovica LonÄar.
Two days after forming division attacked garrison ÄŒermenica near Topusko with 4th and 5th Bde and after that eliminated strongholds in Skakavac, Banski KovaÄevac and Lasinja. In the beginning of January it destroyed Home Defence garrison in Saborsko and chetnik in LiÄka Jasenica. From January 20th 1943 to end of February it is heavily engaged with 5th and 15th Bde during Fourth enemy offensive (Operation Weiss I) at directions Karlovac-Bihać, Bihać-Donji Lapac and in Lapac.
Fought in Kordun, Banija, Lika, Cazin krajina, Gorski kotar, Hrvatsko primorje, Pokupje and Žumberak.In final operation of JA participate in liberation of Bihać, Kordun, northern Lika, Gorski kotar and part of Slovenia.
