Garibaldi Division

(Garibaldi Divizija)

Formed as part of NOVJ on December 2nd 1943 in the area Pljevalja from parts of Venezia and Taurineze division which after capitulation of Italy crossed over to NOVJ (partisans). 1st, 2nd and 3rd Brigade was formed on December 2nd 1943, 4th Brigade was formed in December 1943, disbanded on February 2nd 1944 and formed again in August 1944. As part of 2nd Corps of NOV&POJ it was heavily engaged against Germans in Sandžak and Monte Negro during 1943/44. It participated in Durmitor operation. On March 6th 1945 by approval of General Staff of NOV&POJ division was transferred to Bari, Italy with all of its equipment and later to Monopoli. Form there it was transferred to Sicily were it remains until the end of the war as garrison unit.
