264. Infanterie-Division
History
Formed in France and Belgium between June and August 1943 as reserve division of Army Group D.
After capitulation of Italy it was transferred to Yugoslavia during September and October 1943 arriving first to Croatia in area around Zagreb moved to Dalmatia to serve with 15th Mountain Corps.
264th Infantry Division carried out numerous anti-partisans operations on Dalmatian mainland and surrounding islands, organizing costal defense in case of Allied landing. During liberation of Dalmatia in late 1944 by 8th Dalmatian Corps, division was completely destroyed with only 1526 soldiers left.
