Operation NEGUS

(Landungsunternehmen) Unternehmen Negus / Operation Negus

Intro

German Naval Command of norther Dalmatia and staff of 264th Infantry Division planned operation NEGUS in order to cut Yugoslav Partisan communications with mainland which run from Žirje and Kornat through Šibenik archipelago to coast between Rogoznica and Murter.

Operation was mix of naval and landing raids targeting Partisan sea communications, warehouses on the islands and boats in ports and coves. In order to aid operation admiral Adria sent 6th Minesweeper Flotilla.

History

First action was during night of 1/2 August against Žirje relay station when Germans landed at Mikavica port on Žirje island along several other minor islands. Partisans managed to escape towards Kornat islands
