118. Jäger-Division

History

Created in 1943 by reorganizing 718th Infantry Division. After completion of operation SCHWARZ division was deployed to Montengro were it disarmed Italian troops after their capitulation and securing coastline from Western Allies which were advancing through southern Italy. Division was transferred to Dalmatia where it took part in capturing of nearby island and was given task of island and mainland defense which would result in several large scale battle with British Commandos and Yugoslav Partisans beside numerous raids and ambushes.

During September 1944 division suffered heavy losses while attempting to withdraw from several Dalmatian islands.

On 17 October begun withdrawal of remaining parts of the division to front towards Belgrade. Leaving Omiš area on 17/18 October towards Zadvarje they destroyed bridge over Cetina at Omiš.

Withdrawal of the division which wasn't timed well by 5th SS Mountain Corps with 15th Mountain Corps left exposed flank of 264th Infantry Division.
