Special Police

of Belgrade city administration

Created in the middle of 1941 by renaming of Department of general police Belgrade city administration. During WW2 as quisling institution it kept same organizational structure but almost exclusively only its IV section was used on discovering and prosecution of members of Communist party and Communist youth. Special Police had 30 investigators and 150 agents also under its requests at disposal were further 52 officers and 1550 members of Municipal Guard from Serbian State Guard.

It worked under directives from German Gestapo and other security service of German occupation authorities, Belgrade city administrator and Ministry of Interior. n the filed it co-operated with representatives of police and district authorities. With armed support of Serbian State Guard, Special Police mostly operated on territory of Belgrade city administration, but was also sending groups of investigators and agents into other cities in Serbia in which communist activities have started.

Work was accomplished by use of information's gathered in investigation in which most brutal methods of torture was used on the arrested, information's received from recruited individuals inside CP, and from questioning of people arrested in numerous raids in all parts of city.

Undetermined number of communists, communists youth and sympathizers of CP and People's Liberation Movement (NOP) have died from beating and torture in Special Police prison Glavnyatcha in Belgrade. Several thousands of People's Liberation Movement (NOP) activists were shot by orders of Special Police or have died in concentration camps.
