1st Proletarian Corps of NOVJ

History

Formed on 5 October 1943 from 1st Proletarian and 6th "Nikola Tesla" divisions. From 15 September 1944 Operative group of divisions (6th, 17th and 21st) become part of Corps. Until middle of June 1944 Corps operated in Western and Central Bosnia and Lika where it fought heavy battles with units of 15th Mountain, 5th SS Mountain and 69th Corps, participated in Banja Luka Operation and Drvar Operation. In August 1944 made a breakthrough over Zlatibor into Serbia and on Maljen and Suvobor smashed chetniks.

Participated in Belgrade operation, Srem front. On 1 January 1945 reformed into 1st Army.
