1st Proletarian Division

History
First proletarian division was formed on 1 November 1942 near Bosanski Petrovac from 1st Proletarian and 3rd Sandzak Proletarian Brigade and 3rd Krajina Brigade. On the day of forming it had 3200 men. On 4 June 1943 3rd Sandzak Proletarian Brigade left the division, at the beginning of November 1943 the 13th Proletarian Brigade 'Rade Koncar' joined the division. During 1944 the 8th Montenegro Brigade joined the division on 6 September and Italian Partisan Brigade 'Italia' on 28 October. On 21 November 1944 the Artillery Brigade was formed. On 7 March 8th Montenegro Brigade left the division.
Participated in all major battles and offensives across Yugoslavia and in liberation of number of places in Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. It carried out crucial tasks during operations (Neretva and Sutjeska offensives, Drvar, Banja Luka, Durmitor and Belgrade operations, Syrmia front...)
