2nd Army

History

Formed on 1 January 1945 from Southern Operative Group of Divisions NOVJ (17th Eastern Bosnian, 23rd Serbian, 25th Serbian, 28th Slavnonian and 45th Serbian divisions) - around 60,000 men. Until March it fought in area of Vlasenica, Bijeljina, Brčko, Majevica, Ozren and Trebava. In final operations of Yugoslav army fought in valley of river Bosna and on the Bosnian side of Sava river, liberates Doboj, Bosanski Brod, Banja Luka, Bosanska and Stara Gradiška and across Sisak and Petrinja advanced to Zagreb. From 10 to 15 May disarmed 7th SS Division "Prinz Eugen" and 373rd Infantry Division (Kroat.) and larger number of NDH and chetnik formations.
