Jan Zizka brigade

(Jan Žiška brigada)

History

Formed on 26 October 1943 in village Bucje near Pakrac in Slavonia, Croatia from ethnic Czech and Slovak soldiers from 1st Czechoslovak and 1s Posavina Assault battalions, parts of 12th Brigade and soldiers from Western and Eastern group of partisan detachments of the 6th Corps.

Part of Western group partisan detachments until 3 November when it become part of 12th Division with its two battalions totaling 590 soldiers.

Mostly fought in Slavonia and Podravina.

Third battalion was formed in November 1944 bringing total strength to 1151 soldiers.

Disbanded on 23 April 1945 and personnel used to reinforce 4th Brigade of 12th Division.
