3rd Army
of Yugoslav Partisans and Yugoslav Army
History
Third army was formed on 1 January 1945 from the units of General Staff Vojvodina and the 12th Corps NOVJ (16th, 36th and 51st Vojvodina divisions). Later 12th Slavnonian, 17th Eastern Bosnian, 32nd Zagorje, 33rd Croatian and 40th Slavnonian divisions were added.
Commander was Kosta Nađ, political commissar Branko Petričević and Chief of Staff Vukašin Subotić.
In final operations of Yugoslav army participates in liberation of Slovenia, Croatia and Štajerska and in destruction and capturing Germans, NDH and chetnik formations in area of Celje, Šoštanje, Slovenj-Gradec and Dravograd.
